Position Summary

Zyter|TruCare is seeking an experienced Lead SQL Database Administrator to oversee and manage mission-critical, customer-facing database environments in a hybrid cloud infrastructure. This role is pivotal in ensuring high availability, scalability, and security across both private data centers and AWS cloud deployments. The ideal candidate will bring deep technical expertise in MS SQL Server, particularly in high-availability architectures such as Always On Availability Groups, and will be responsible for driving performance, reliability, and compliance in our production systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Database Design & Administration: Design, implement, and maintain SQL Server environments spanning private datacenters (VMWare) and AWS EC2, supporting SQL Server 2014–2019.
  • High Availability & Disaster Recovery: Manage Always On Availability Groups, ensuring continuous availability and robust disaster recovery capabilities.
  • Replication & Performance Tuning: Configure and support OLTP and ODS replicated environments. Monitor system performance and apply advanced tuning strategies to optimize throughput and scalability.
  • Security & Compliance: Implement database security best practices, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards such as HIPAA and HITRUST.
  • Automation & Maintenance: Automate recurring administrative tasks using T-SQL, SQL Agent Jobs, and PowerShell. Maintain backups, perform restores, and carry out scheduled maintenance to ensure data integrity and uptime.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with development, DevOps, and infrastructure teams to support application architecture, deployment strategies, and continuous integration workflows.
  • Customer-Facing Support: Provide direct support to hosted customers, including responding to Jira tickets, executing scripts, managing upgrade cycles, and participating in on-call rotations.
  • Documentation & Reporting: Create and maintain technical documentation including configuration settings, operational runbooks, and process guides. Develop and manage custom reporting using T-SQL in collaboration with offshore reporting teams.

Required Experience and Skills

  • 7+ years of experience in MS SQL Server Database Administration.

  • Expertise with SQL Server 2016/2019, including installation, configuration, and troubleshooting.

  • Strong experience with Always On Availability Groups and high-availability architectures.

  • Proficiency in managing large databases in hybrid cloud environments (VMWare, AWS EC2/RDS).

  • Deep knowledge of replication, performance tuning, and optimization techniques.

  • Skilled in scripting and automation using T-SQL and PowerShell.

  • Experience in backup/recovery strategies and disaster recovery planning.

  • Familiarity with monitoring tools such as SQL Sentry, DataDog, Prometheus, or Grafana.

  • Knowledge of SSIS package deployment and execution.

  • Strong understanding of database security and compliance requirements.

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with a customer-focused approach.

Preferred Skills

  • AWS Certified Solutions Architect or AWS Certified Database – Specialty.

  • Experience in CI/CD practices and DevOps collaboration.

  • Administration experience in large-scale, high-traffic production environments.

  • Working knowledge of Windows Server, command line operations, and cloud-native tooling.
