Position Summary
Zyter|TruCare is seeking a highly experienced and proactive Senior DB Engineering Lead to drive database strategy, development, and optimization for our enterprise healthcare platform. In this leadership role, you will be responsible for managing and mentoring a team of database engineers, spearheading performance tuning and data architecture initiatives, and collaborating closely with development and client teams. This is a hands-on position that blends technical expertise with strategic oversight in a fast-paced, agile environment.
Key Responsibilities
Database Leadership & Strategy
Lead and manage database-centric initiatives, including schema design, performance enhancements, and upgrade strategies. Act as the single point of contact for the DB Engineering team across development and operations.
SQL Development & Optimization
Write, optimize, and review complex SQL code and stored procedures. Develop efficient database logic aligned with application and business requirements.
Performance Monitoring & Tuning
Monitor SQL Server performance, troubleshoot issues, and apply advanced tuning techniques to ensure high availability, concurrency, and scalability.
Data Modeling & Standards
Assist with logical and physical data modeling. Develop and enforce database standards, code conventions, and best practices across the engineering team.
Database Administration & Maintenance
Execute DBA tasks within development and test environments, including backups, restores, user permissions, and schema changes.
Code Reviews & Mentorship
Perform regular code reviews and provide guidance to junior DB engineers. Ensure adherence to database best practices and standards.
Collaboration & Client Interaction
Work closely with software development teams, product stakeholders, and internal/external clients to support and optimize database components.
Upgrades & Automation
Plan and implement safe upgrades in production environments. Use tools like Liquibase to manage schema changes and version control.
Required Experience and Skills
Proven experience in leading database engineering initiatives and teams.
Strong SQL development background with expertise in writing and tuning complex queries.
Hands-on experience with database upgrade strategies, particularly using Liquibase.
Familiarity with programming languages beyond T-SQL (e.g., Java, Hibernate).
In-depth knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server (2012, 2014, 2016, and 2019), both Standard and Enterprise editions.
Experience in database performance monitoring, optimization, and troubleshooting.
Solid understanding of SQL Server security, concurrency, and locking mechanisms.
Microsoft SQL Server certifications are preferred.
Proficiency in SSIS, and experience with ETL and Data Warehousing tools (SSRS, SSAS, JasperServer, R).
Ability to plan, test, and safely implement production changes during software release cycles.
Familiarity with version control systems and ecosystem tools: GIT, Bitbucket, Stash, SVN.
Strong communication and leadership skills.
BS in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.
Preferred Skills
Experience in database development for high-traffic, enterprise-grade applications.
Exposure to startup environments or roles requiring broad versatility.
Ability to thrive in Agile/SCRUM teams with cross-functional collaboration.
