At Home with ZyterHome™ − A Patient’s Experience
Sep 17, 2021
Sheila W.*, a Medicare patient with hypertension and hypoglycemia, used to make a 20-mile round-trip drive from her Nevada home to the office at Reflections Healthcare, Pahrump, Nev. every four weeks just to get her blood pressure checked and have a blood glucose test. Although Sheila is active and ambulatory, she found that those appointment days took up a lot of her time, not only for the drive, but also the time spent at her physician’s busy practice. That’s just one reason why she was very interested when her doctor suggested that she enroll in ZyterHome™ remote patient monitoring (RPM) of her chronic conditions using LTE-enabled medical devices at home.
ZyterHome is a comprehensive, HIPAA-compliant RPM solution that enables physicians to monitor patient healthcare data between office visits, while patients manage their chronic conditions at home. Integrated with the ZyterHealth™ platform, ZyterHome consists of patient-facing, preconfigured LTE-enabled devices (blood pressure monitor, blood glucose monitor, digital weight scale) to seamlessly track and transmit a patient’s physiological data to the physician’s office. The devices are shipped to the patient’s home after the patient signs a consent form. Controlled with a simple on/off button, ZyterHome medical devices are easy to use and require no technical expertise.
Sheila found that enrolling with ZyterHome and using the LTE-enabled blood pressure cuff and digital weight scale are both very easy to do. “There was one enrollment form that I signed electronically and that was it,” she says. “When the ZyterHome devices arrived, my husband put the batteries in, and I hooked up the cable to the monitor base. Not hard at all.
“I use the blood pressure cuff and the digital weight scale every day. They’re great and very reliable!”

“I have arthritis in my hands, and I found the SmartMeter blood pressure monitor to be very easy for me to handle because I don’t have to undo and redo the cuff every time,” Sheila adds. “I just pull it up where it’s supposed to be and push the button. The cuff automatically reads and transmits my blood pressure reading directly to my doctor’s office in all of maybe five minutes. I use the blood pressure cuff and the digital weight scale every day. They’re great and very reliable!”
Customer support from Zyter is just a phone call away, but Reflections Healthcare also reaches out to ensure that patients are comfortable using their ZyterHome devices. Kaye LaPointe, medical assistant, calls Sheila about every two weeks to see if she has any questions or issues. Sheila can also call Kaye anytime if she has a concern. “I really like talking with Kaye. It gives me peace of mind that she is there to help and answer my questions,” Sheila says.
Most importantly, Reflections Healthcare staff can intervene if it appears that Sheila may be having an emergent episode. Because physiological data from a ZyterHome device is sent for physician review, her doctor can immediately see if Sheila’s readings are out of the normal range for her age and condition. Sheila says that the ZyterHome data from her daily blood pressure readings has helped in the monitoring and treatment of her conditions.
“Kaye called me because they saw that my blood pressure reading was very low,” Sheila says. “I was feeling very dizzy that day and I told Kay that I have hypoglycemia. They recommended testing my blood glucose level on a regular basis, so now I’m also using the ZyterHome glucose monitor.”
Now that Sheila has used ZyterHome for several months, she is already benefitting from the convenience of participating in her own care and more. “Keeping track of my blood pressure with ZyterHome is much more convenient, because instead of going to the doctor’s office every four weeks for check-ups, I just need to go every six months,” Sheila says. “Also, I don’t have to run into the office when I’m feeling in trouble with my blood pressure. I call Kaye at the office and she checks my blood pressure reading. If it’s too high, she lets my doctor know right away and we can adjust medications or treatment. It takes the worry out of the situation, and I feel that I have more control of my healthcare.
When asked what she would say to someone unsure about using ZyterHome remote patient monitoring, Sheila says, “Just try it. ZyterHome is very easy to use and you’ll absolutely love it when you get the hang of it – and it only takes a nanosecond to get the hang of it. But if you’re ever unsure about how to use your devices, just call and talk to your ZyterHome contact at your physician’s office for help. I’m very happy with ZyterHome.”
